It has been wisely said that a person never sees things as they are but rather as he or she is. Your personal experiences, history and other factors will always have a bearing on how you judge any situation. Realize that you will be inherently biased regarding any given situation and then fight to overcome your biases by doing careful research to see if your feelings regarding an issue are indeed right.
A paradox is that in my personal life i frequently wrestle with personal bias and habitual thinking. While in my creative work it approaches more as a tango. The personal bias is always present, very hot and alluring. Resisting, yet effortlessly controllable, even playful.
Marcus Aurelius wrote in Meditations: “If someone is able to show me that what I think or do is not right, I will happily change, for I seek the truth, by which no one was ever truly harmed. It is the person who continues in his self-deception and ignorance who is harmed.”
